About the Different Races
Overview
When creating a new character, their race will impact their performance more than anything. Their race determines what Guilds they can join, influences how much damage they can endure or inflict, and it can even limit what equipment they can use.
Unlike many fantasy games, humans are easily the weakest race, and thus players usually only make human characters when they want a challenge or are new to the game and don't understand its mechanics just yet. Instead, Giants and Dwarves dominate the game, with the other races filling in specialist roles.
Lifespans
One of the most important things to consider when selecting a character's race is the race's expected lifespan. Characters age as they rest from their adventures, are affected by magical traps and attacks, or, should the worst come to pass, wait for someone to recover their corpse. Once an adventurer grows old enough, they should be retired.
The biggest issue with growing old is the risk it poses to resurrections. Restoring the dead to life is a tricky enough business already, but older a character is, the higher the likelihood of them experiencing complications during the raise. In fact, complications will always result from a failed raise if the character has already lived through half of their expected lifespan.
